Members of the Jamboree Project Team 2023 took part in a next great scout event! Representatives of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association – Paweł Chmielewski, Piotr Kowalczyk and Magdalena Noszczyk took part in West Africa Zonal Scout Conference in Benin on 23rd-26th February 2017.

The conference was being hosted in national stadium in Cotonou, Benin’s greatest city. For Magdalena and Piotr it was a meeting of old friends, because they’ve already met scouts from Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Benin at Africa Scout Jamboree. The guest of honour was Polish Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr Andrzej Dycha, who was inviting the Conference’ participants to Poland to the World Scout Jamboree in 2023.
The conference was organised by the board of the Benin Scouting Organisation and the Africa Scout Region team. The conference was accompanied by the Youth Forum and the Scout Educational Methods Forum. During the Youth Forum one of our girl guides, Magdalena Noszczyk, presented a new project launched by the European Scout Region „Scouts and Guides: Active Global Citizens” that is run by scouting and guiding organisations in Europe and supported by European WOSM and WAGGGS bureaus.

‘Besides the promotion of the bid of the Polish Guiding and Scouting Association and the city of Gdańsk to host the World Scout Jamboree in 2023 we had the possibility to discuss the bilateral partnership with Scouts from West Africa. There is a great chance that our scout leaders and girl guides will visit countries by the Gulf of Guinea in the future.’, says Piotr Kowalski.

The most talked topics were Schengen visas, Solidarity Fund, Home Hospitality and Stopover Europe.
After the conference Magdalena and Piotr travelled to Senegal, where they met the representatives of two scout organisations and the board of the Federation which is a member of WOSM. Then, Piotr alone went to Zimbabwe, where he’s met the International Commissioner and the board of the scout organisation. They were discussing both the bid of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association and the city of Gdańsk to host the World Scout Jamboree in 2023 on the sobieszewo Island and the cooperation with the organisation of Africa Scout Day in 2018. The next Africa Scout Day have started on 7th March in Arusha, Tanzania, and was visited by representatives of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association.
